I can't believe that what I feel is really happening to me Is it so wrong for me to not care about the death of some person I never even met? I don't think so. Everyone seems to be going on and on about that little Cecilia girl from Mississauga who was kidnapped a while ago. Yesterday, her dead body was found in a ravine. Sure, I feel bad for her parents and family and all (I think today is her birthday) but, other than that, I don't really care. It's not like I knew her personally or anything. I don't know, I feel like there should be other things that people should respect more than some dead little nine-year old. What about all those people who give up the comforts of Western society life and go to live in third-world countries where they take care of all the people who suffer there? People like those who work for the UNHCR and whatnot. Or what about all the people who died during the World Wars? We only have one day dedicated to them and, after it's over, no one seems to care anymore. I think I would prefer to honour and respect the death of a person who died trying to better the world I live in than some little girl who just had a case of bad luck. Man, I have bad luck all the time so why aren't people honouring me? Why isn't my name in all the newspapers? What's so special about some Asian piano-playing nine-year old girl who has blonde highlights and likes to read? Well, besides the fact that she's dead. Oh wait, how many children die every day? I don't have any idea of what the number would be but, I am guessing hundreds. Maybe even hundreds of thousands. Anyway, my point is, why aren't we honouring any of those kids? Most of whom died well before the age of nine. Why aren't we honouring any of the people who deserve it most? What has Cecilia ever done for the world? Nothing. So why should she get all the respect?
